Biography

And so it goes, one more time, the forth full length release of the Four Square Cd 'Dial Nine for a Line'.  The Release is handled by the ever so competent Antstreet records out of Germany!! The album is a result of two years of recording and three years of writing. The name stems from the current status of the bands situation professionally. Two of the members (Simon Head and Allan Shaw) have jobs that has a certain type of phone system that needs to have a nine dialed to get the dial tone in which to make a proper phone call.  Four square basically revolves around Simon Head, the co founder of the band. The musical influences come from bands like Samiam , The Get up kids. Sencefeild, texas is the reason, Splitlip and the list goes on.   Simon Is also a song writer who has written for Musicians like SNOW (yes the informer) and Television shows like Ace Lightning (BBC/ Alliance Atlantis). Besides recording and Producing 'Dial Nine for a Line', Simon has worked as a producer to hundreds of bands all over Canada for many years now.

Four Square has been around now for nine years.  They have released 4 albums in Europe, North America and Japan. They have toured Europe 4 times with the likes of Ten Foot Pole, The Weakerthans and Sum 41. In Japan the Release 'Three Chords... One Capo' stayed in the Japanese HMV top 200 post hardcore chart for almost a year, peaking at number 14.  The Ace lightning theme is still played all over the world on a daily bases many, many times.  No band anywhere can make a statement like that!!  Not bad for a bunch of half assed Canadians!!

'Dial Nine for a Line', like the other three releases features many guest performers.Drumming Duties on 'Dial Nine for a Line' were from Kevin Ruggeri ex of 'Ten Foot Pole'.  Connor Lovet Fraser from the Band 'Boys Night Out' wrote lyrics for the songs 'Smoke Rings' and 'Borrowed Time'. Connor also sang some back ground vocals and was a general inspiration to the whole project. Peter Carmichael from the Toronto group 'The diableros' played some 12 string guitar. Stephen Egerton from the seminal groups ALL and the Descendants played a guitar solo on the cd and also mixed 8 of the songs at 'Armstrong Recording co' in Tulsa Oklahoma. And finally, Dave (brownsound) Baksh ex of Sum 41 lent a guitar solo to the song 'Landslide'.

As a whole 'Dial Nine for a Line' is a perfect mix of rock and powerpop, engineered to stick in your head and tap your toes!! The release date is scheduled for the end of August and a european tour to start in mid September. So break out the Jagermeister, pack up the Sprinter, it's going to be a fun ride!!
